Human beings have asymmetrical bodies and faces—ones that not even the most skilled plastic surgeons can make perfectly symmetrical. Asymmetry is part of our lives, and our brain is wired to accept it, even though it constantly searches for beauty in people with near-perfect symmetry. This instinct comes from our biological drive to refine the species.

The beauty of asymmetry lies in that visual rhythm that almost becomes music for our eyes, from the very moment our brain analyzes a face in microseconds. The features of that asymmetry also help us remember, so we can later recognize the person when we see them again.

In this series, where I work with asymmetrical faces made up of irregular circles, I invite the viewer to reflect on the beauty standards that have been imposed on us over the years—standards we often follow as if they came from a rulebook we must obey.

Asymmetry also attracts. It is also beautiful. And it is profoundly human.
